Porchtime and stuff

March 2012 The word of the month is hormones! Wow! They are making me feel super crazy at times! So far there has only been one evening where Jake had to call in for reinforcements. Katie had been crying off and on for most of the day and eating off and on all day and by the time Jake got home I was feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed. I started crying uncontrollably, Katie was crying, and after a while of manning things on his own, Jake decided we had a job that only someone with experience could handle. Granny came gave Jake a beer,  put me(reluctantly) in the shower, and worked her magic with Katie. We think Katie may have a touch of colic because every night around 8:00 she starts crying and nothing we try seems to work. After trying several different things different books suggested, Jake seems to have the magic touch, he lays her on his arm and lets her suck on his finger and he walks around the room with her. Magic Touch! I threw the Baby Wise book across the room, maybe it was hormones, who knows, but it made me feel better afterwards!

Jake got Katie ready for church and I had to take a picture because he put her hat on backwards. It is a very cute bonnet and he did a great job, I just thought it was funny:)

We took a trip down to see our family in FL and AL, Katie’s first big trip! She slept all the way down with only one stop halfway for some dinner; she is a great car rider!

Peepaw barely let anyone else hold her!

Hunter and Heather got to hold Katie

Hunter was so sweet, he kept patting her and rocking her, then she started fussing and he was done! So cute!

Katie has so many people that love her!
Gran and Paw seem to like her just fine!

Magic Velcro Baby! She found her a sweet spot and just hung out there!

We love that she can just fall asleep anywhere, no matter what we are doing.
Jake can do the exact same thing!

WE LOVE THE MOBY WRAP! T IS AWESOME! Katie loves it too!

Her cozy bed, she doesn't really sleep here except for naps, not yet.

Out on one of our walks. Mama, Katie, and Sam:)

Most nights this is how Katie falls asleep, and Jake too.
Can't beat snuggle time with a sweet baby!

Watching the cows across the street, I don't think she can see that far, but whatever.

 One of my faves!!

Katie's first porch time with the family:) Yay! Porchtime!!

Settling in at home

Feb 2012 A few days after arriving home we seemed to be getting the hang of breastfeeding and we had a few more visitors. Sam kept a very watchful eye on all who came to visit Katie. He would sit right beside them as though to remind them that he was not going to let them out of the door with his baby. He was so good with all the visitors and changes to the house.  We also had a visit from Bah and Charles. Katie had her fist tub bath in her very cute Pooh bath tub.

The only concern we have is a pain in my belly. It is constant and seems to be getting worse...After a few days the pain in my belly was unbearable and we decided it best to go to the Dr. After a few agonizing days and tests later it is found that I have an infection in my abdomen and antibiotics are the course of action. We learned the hard way that Cat Scans and breastfeeding don’t mix; thankfully Jake’s Mom was here to help me keep the hormones from completely getting the best of me. Because of the pain, it is impossible for me to lie down in the bed, so we all have been sleeping on the couch. It is the best way for me to be able to feed Katie at night with minimal pain and without disturbing Jake too much, so he can go to work. He is great about making sure we have everything we need, pillows, water for me, and are situated before he goes back to sleep. I really don’t know what I would do without his help as we figure out what we are doing with this sweet little baby girl!

Finally home!!

Sam standing guard over Katie, he made sure no one tried to leave with "his" baby!
I think you can trust Bah Sam, relax bud!

Katie Elouise Arrives!

After some trouble with low amniotic fluid, Dr. Smith decided Katie’s lungs were developed enough, we should wait no longer and she scheduled us for a c section for 10:00 a.m. on 2/2/2012 Jake, Sam, and I headed to bed and the arrival of Aunt Lynnsey who is going to be the photographer for the big arrival. Aunt Lynnsey arrived about 3:00 a.m. and used her key to get in, but she couldn’t sneak past Sam, he heard her come in the door and went to barking and gave us a start! Jake went to let Sam know it was just Aunt Lynnsey and I sat up to follow them. When I sat up on the edge of the bed my water broke…to be sure I went ahead to the bathroom and once there I was very sure that is what happened, so I informed Jake and Aunt Lynnsey that it was time to GO! On the way to the hospital I called Dr. Smith, Man and Granny, Dad, Laura, Blane, Darby, and Keely, and my Mom. Everyone that could, headed to the hospital to await your debut. Even though Katie was scheduled to come a bit later that morning, we bumped the other woman ahead of us out of the way and Katie Elouise came bursting in the world around 5:45! Then everyone who could all came by the hospital to hold you and see your happy face! We were surrounded by so many family members and friends! You barely noticed being passed around, you went from one arm to the next and back to me for a little something to eat and then get passed around again. Let’s hope you are this easy going from now on!
